SECRET: Why do our bouquets last for weeks …not days?
We buy flowers that last and handle them properly! They are ALWAYS kept refrigerated and NEVER exposed to ripening produce (ethylene gas given off by ripening produce accelerates flower growth…a lot!) We buy Ontario grown if possible or we imported from farms that grow in an eco-responsible way! It all adds up to a better bouquet…that lasts!
Make Them Last: (read this and become an expert!)
1-Use the flower food we provide but…MIX it in the correct ratio. Keeping a bit for later or dumping it all in a small vase (over dosing) REDUCES vase life!
2-get your vase ready …using luke warm tap water! (plants draw warm water faster than cold water)
3-run your tap and cut each stem under the stream so the end of the stem never see’s air. (many flowers get “air-blocks” in their stems when exposed to room air…even for a few seconds). If you have ever had a rose, gerbera, baby’s breath wilt even while standing in water…its WILTING! (a rose that does not open is picked too young…one that opens and does not last is old.
4-after about 30 minutes flowers should feel like a “crispy lettuce”…they are drawing water! Only ADD water to the vase from this point. If you change the water you have to re-cut! If one stem feels “limp” …recut under water!
